There has been a significant exploration into how defects affect thin shells, but limited research into how defects affect thick shells. I am working with the Bertoldi Group at Harvard to investigate this problem. I have manufactured and tested shells to validate and refine the finite element model and designed combinations of shells to functionalize the findings.

The defects change the hysteresis. To demonstrate the control these defects give, I helped design a color mixer that only uses one pressure over time signal as the input to control 3 outputs (cyan, magenta, yellow).
